The Two Year Anniversary

Our two year anniversary is actually March 21st, but since that day was booked at the B&B we were going to, we decided to celebrate early on the 4th.
Friday Whitney got off work early and I had a dermatology exam in the morning before beginning Spring Break '11. I'm off for the next week, but that will involve mostly studying for the boards and spending time with friends around Boston. Though I had wanted to visit California, especially now that my parents are gone and I'm not really heading back there, it's a little pricey since we're already flying out to Seattle in May. However, I'm looking forward to spending time at home, since it was hard on Whitney last year to be alone for a week.
Anyways, Friday we drove down to Chatham (pronounced Chattum, because people here couldn't figure out how to spell) to a little B&B we had bought a coupon for online. It was a great sunny day, and it's nice to have winter finally on its way out, with the temps now in the 40s. Once we arrived we were shown to our room, which was super nice, and we headed to downtown for a walk. Chatham is a bustling town during the season, but as it is off-season right now, almost everything was closed until April, so our walk turned out to be rather short. However, there was a place called the Chatham Candy Manor open, which is this awesome little candy shop where the make all the candy in a copper basin in the front of the shop and hand dip it and it's all delicious! We bought an assortment of truffles to take back to the room and have with our wine. By the way, we brought wine with us (a delicious bottle of 14 Hands given to us from Heather & Greg), since it beat buying the package where they leave wine for you in the room. After that we headed back to the room to read and relax a little and enjoy the inn for the afternoon. Whitney bought me a little present, the book "Complications" by Dr. Atul Gawande. It's a really interesting book about the error which happens in medicine and how we can address it. It's especially gripping since it's written from a surgeon's perspective, and so there's more blood and guts when they mess up. After reading, we got to one of the best parts of the night, which was dinner.
Dinner was at a restaurant called "The Impudent Oyster". Whitney didn't know what impudent meant, but in this case it seems to mean nothing but good food. We had one of the best dining-out experiences ever! Our waitress was nice, the bread was fresh cooked out of the oven, and the food was out of this world. The appetizer we had was a lobster quesadilla, which was amazing, but the meals we ordered were fancy-ish beef stew and a baked chicken pasta thing. The beef stew, which went by a fancier Frenchy name, was literally one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted, and I'm not a person who is easily excited or impressed. It was flat out amazing. The chicken was great as well. It was definitely pricey, but definitely worth it!

We took a walk along the shore in a Nature Preserve recommended to us by one of the innkeepers. Half the walk was on the beach and half in the woods. Even thought it was a nice day out (45 degrees) by the beach it was pretty chilly and windy! As you can see above, we had to bundle up. It was interesting because the trail was one big loop, the first part of the loop being on the beach and you took that same part back up to the parking lot. Well, there wasn't much beach when we started the loop and by the time we got back there was no beach at all! We had to improvise by trespassing on a few hopefully gracious Cape Codder's lawns. It was a fairly short loop (probably only a 45 min walk), but it was beautiful landscape. After that we stopped for lunch and grabbed coffee at a coffee shop in Orleans that we had actually been to before with Gammy and Papa. Then Chad drove us home in record time.

It was a very lovely day and a nice way to celebrate our anniversary.
